Book Six of the Eleanor & Sophie Vasey series — the concluding novel.
Six books. Three generations. One question nobody ever asked them.
Sophie Vasey is out. She has a house on the west coast of Ireland, a woman she loves, a dog she did not choose, and a telephone that four people can call. Marta Reinsalu has the chair.
A hundred and sixty-two people were bought at twenty-two, woken at thirty-four, and saved at thirty-five — written onto the archives of nine governments in nineteen days by a service that had no time to ask their permission. It was the right thing. It saved their lives. Nobody asked them.
Now they have begun to find each other. Not to take revenge, and not to sell anything to anybody: they are writing down what was done to them, one account at a time, in their own hands, and posting it to a man in Bratislava who keeps it in a post office box. When it is finished it will be published, and it will be true, and it will end declared sourcing in Europe for a generation.
Marta cannot stop it. They have committed no offence, they are protected by the very arrangement that saved them, and — worst of all — they are right.
The series is complete in six volumes. For readers of John le Carré, Mick Herron and Charles Cumming.
